Thanks to Jim Kukral, creator of Scratchback. Ok, we borrow his idea and re-implement it differently.

Looks like Jim Kukral stays on top of things related to Scratchback.com . I was delighted to see a tip on my website from Jim.

Thanks Jim! I also really appreciate his message too.

Jim Kukral message: “You mimicked my idea. Congrats and Good Luck with it! Thanks again Jim for creating Scratchback tip jar.

Here are a couple of primary differences from Scratchback widget versus TipMyBlog:

1. Scratchback uses javascript code. While TipMyBlog uses server-side integration or RSS integration, thereby rendering all links as plain links. We think that this may encourage more tippings.

2. Scratchback has thousands of installed user base, while TipMyBlog only has (few) users. ehm.. ehm.

3. Scratchback uses Rackspace for their server, while we use Amazon Web Services to serve our ads.

Why most Scratchback widgets fail to deliver?

August 31, 2008 by tipmyblog

I have visited a lot of websites and noticed many of their Scratchback widgets are empty, that is no one paying for it.

This affiliate marketing website that I found has about 22,000 unique visitors per month, based on Compete Analytics, and guess how many tippers are there? 1, Yes, ONE only.

Who are the tipper? Creator of Scratchback.

Why is it so? Some of my guesses:

o The blog readers don’t notice the widget

o Most people don’t tip for plain links.

(SEO Link Building is a $1 billion industry worldwide. Google, Yahoo, and MSN Revenue from CPC alone exceeds $21 billion worldwide annually.)

Links in Javascript with rel=no follow just does not cut it

o Introducing our Server-side scratchback that will give you more recurring income, why because our widget links have no CONDOMS on it.
